A classic British dessert made with layers of sponge cake, custard, fruit, and whipped cream.

Ingredients
  

Sponge Cake Layer
  • 200 g sponge cake cut into cubes
Custard
  • 500 ml custard prepared or store-bought
Fruit Layer
  • 200 g mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
Whipped Cream
  • 300 ml heavy cream whipped
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar to sweeten
Garnish
  • 2 tbsp slivered almonds optional
  • mint leaves for garnish optional

Method
 

Assemble the Trifle
  1. In a trifle dish, layer half of the sponge cake cubes at the bottom.
  2. Pour half of the custard over the sponge cake layer.
  3. Add a layer of mixed berries on top of the custard.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining sponge cake, custard, and berries.
  5. Top with whipped cream, spreading it evenly over the last layer.
  6. Garnish with slivered almonds and mint leaves if desired.
Chill
  1. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
