Ingredients
  

Meat Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 carrot carrot finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk celery finely chopped
  • 500 grams ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 400 grams canned tomatoes crushed
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • salt to taste salt
  • pepper to taste black pepper
Pasta
  • 400 grams spaghetti or your choice of pasta
  • 1 tablespoon salt for pasta water
To Serve
  • 50 grams parmesan cheese grated
  • fresh basil to taste fresh basil for garnish

Method
 

Prepare the Sauce
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cook the Pasta
  1. While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Combine and Serve
  1. Toss the cooked spaghetti with the bolognese sauce until well coated.
  2. Serve hot, topped with grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer. You can also add a splash of red wine for depth.
