Ingredients

Hot Dogs
  • 8 links hot dogs preferably beef or pork
Rub
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat
Sauce
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Method

Prepare the Hot Dogs
  1. Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C).
  2. Slice the hot dogs into bite-sized pieces, about 1 inch thick.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine all the rub ingredients and mix well.
  4. Toss the sliced hot dogs in the rub until evenly coated.
Smoke the Hot Dogs
  1. Place the coated hot dog pieces in the smoker and smoke for about 1 hour.
  2. After 1 hour, remove the hot dogs and place them in an aluminum foil pan.
  3. Mix the barbecue sauce and honey together, then pour over the hot dogs in the pan.
  4. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and return it to the smoker for an additional hour.
Finish and Serve
  1. After the second hour, remove the foil and let the hot dogs cook for another 15-30 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
  2. Once done, remove from the smoker and let cool slightly before serving.
  3. Serve warm as a snack or main dish, garnished with chopped green onions if desired.
